Chosen Charity

Here at Admin24 we believe that helping others is really important.  2009's chosen charity was The Wheelers & Wobblers Sports & Social Club based in Wakefield (Wheelers & Wobblers members pictured right).

The aim of the club is to improve the life and well being of the members, whatever the disability, through sports and social activities. The group is made up of people with many disabilities, ranging from blind / deaf people through to a number of various physical and learning disabilities. Many are wheelchair users, hence the title "Wheelers and Wobblers", indeed most of the committee come into this category. Although only a small group, they can boast to having had several regional and national disabled bowls, boccia, billiards and snooker champions in their ranks and their bowls teams compete in able bodied local leagues.

In order to keep this group going, every year they organise a 25 mile sponsored walk to raise precious funds.  I took part in the walk in May this year with my husband Alan, who has contacts in the group (that's how we got involved). The day started at Bolton Abbey where is began to rain as we set off, then proceeded to get wetter, dried off for two seconds and got even wetter until right at the very end (having had many a good soaking), the sun came out  (photo left - Alan and Pat at the 25 mile point and still smiling!). Alan and I managed to raise £175 between us and I have to say that I faired better than the husband, who limped in at the end with a groin injury!
